The Summer Palace, Beijing – April 2009
On our first day in Beijing we were taken by bus to the Imperial Summer Palace. This is a large complex, bigger- I think- than the Forbidden City. It is situated beside a lake, and the surroundings are quite beautiful.
One interesting thing about this place: the lake is man-made- and the mountain upon which the castle sits was created from the soil and rocks that were dug out of the ground to create the lake. Now that's a landscape project!
There's another version of this photo in the China album, but I decided to take another run at it, since both Photoshop(CC) and its plugins are much improved in helpful technology since I did the previous one.
There were problems with the original raw file stemming primarily from the tiny sensor in the camera. That, and my marginal skills. D'Oh! Good thing I know a bit about #PhotoshopCC !
Used in this production were #TopazDenoise3 , #Nik #Viveza , and #TopazAdjust5 .

Four handheld shots.
(To get the most out of this panorama, click on it, then hit your spacebar to go into full screen mode, then use your scroll wheel to zoom in!)
I've posted a version of this panorama before, but I've never been fully satisfied with it. Now that #PhotoshopCC and #Topaz plugins offer ways of improved production, I think I'm close. Of course, the real solution is to go back with a better (less noisy) camera and do it over.
The component shots were taken looking northward from the Charles Bridge at approximately 4:45 p.m. on 10 February 2008.
Tools used were #Lightroom5 , PhotoshopCC, #TopazDenoise3 , #TopazDetail5 and a couple of adjustment layers.

-from a 2008 visit.
This is a panorama of the east end of St. Vitus Cathedral, Prague. It is made from 7 hand-held shots. I made a similar pano back in 2008, but the tools in Photoshop are much better now, so I took another run at it.
The original frames were each straightened in #Lightroom5 before being sent over to be merged in #PhotoshopCC . Next came #TopazDenoise3 followed by #TopazDetail5 . #SilverEfexPro2 was applied to convert to B/W.

One of those "must visit" places!
In February 2008, I visited Prague for a couple of days after spending a week in Austria. I don't ski, but when offered a mostly free trip to the Alps in winter, one does not say, "Oh, no thanks," although the reason I was invited was because several people did say that! Anyway, Prague happened to be a two day extension on the trip for those who paid the
The first morning in Prague we were taken on a guided tour. It was icy cold, even if sunny. There really was still some frost in the shadowed areas once we got off the tour bus at the cathedral and castle area. One definitely wanted to say in the sun most of the time.
St. Vitus Cathedral is one of the major landmarks of Prague. It is a fairly enormous structure on a hill overlooking most of the Prague metro. One cannot overstate the impressive nature of the ornate details on the outside of the building, and once inside (which we had to wait for until day two because our first day was Sunday), the impression is stronger and deeper.
The photo was processed in #PhotoshopCC using #TopazDenoise3 , #TopazDetail5 and #TopazBW_Effects2 .

A ship passes in the . . . day.
On the day in April 2006 that we visited the radio transmitters at Orford Ness, a ship was passing northward just offshore in the English Channel.
This photo was machine washed and tumble dried in #PhotoshopCC , #TopazDenoise3 , #TopazDetail5 and #TopazSimplify4 with some additional adjustment layers.

Hazy day in Xian.
I posted a photo of a garden gazebo/pagoda the other day that is located in the grounds of this structure. This is probably by far my best shot of it, but that ain't saying much, I'm sure.
This photo was captured on Easter Sunday 2009, after after brief unscheduled visit to a Catholic church (http://goo.gl/TmHzVa), and I think before lunch. It might have been after lunch.
There's some #TopazDenoise3 , #TopazDetail5 and a bit of other adjustments in this, all required to rescue a noisy photo from oblivion.

The unofficial national flower of China.
Continuing my #China catalogue diving. I don't think this photo has ever been posted anywhere, so I thought I'd give it a run through the processing wringer and see what came out. Used to achieve this result were #TopazDenoise3 , #TopazDetail5 and #TopazAdjust5 .
Peonies are grown in different ways from small shrubs to large tree-like plants. Blooms range from a couple of inches in diameter to six or eight inches, depending on how they are cultivated. This was probably in the four or five inch range.
The gardens surrounding the Giant Goose Pagoda in #Xian , China would be a peony lover's delight. They seemed to be everywhere, and April is apparently a great month to catch peonies in bloom.
