Whence cometh my video?
Many people think these structures are hideous scars on the landscape, but to a broadcaster, each one is a beautiful, sometimes almost sacred site.
This one is located on San Bruno Mountain, just south of San Francisco. I go there weekly to do routine maintenance on a TV transmitter. The trip itself isn't always fun- lots of traffic- but once there, it is a peaceful place, and has a terrific view of the entire San Francisco Bay Area.
The atmosphere is changeable. The day around the Bay was warm, though not hot. On the mountain top it was "variably cloudy" due to the incoming marine layer, which people not on the Left Coast would call "fog." Often, especially in the warmer months, one can enjoy Mediterranean warmth and cool fog on the same day- sometimes within a few minutes.
On this day both were happening within yards. The top of the tower was in the warm climate, the bottom fogged in. It really is a sight to behold.
